Reiki is the art of hands-on healing. The Japanese word Reiki means "Universal Energy". Eastern communities recognise and embrace the concept of energy playing a large role in health and wellbeing. This energy, known as "qi" in Japan, "chi" in China and "prana" in India, flows through all living things. Reiki was rediscovered over a century ago by Dr Mikao Usui, after many years of study, research and meditation. Today Reiki is increasingly used in GP surgeries, hospitals, hospices, drug rehabilitation centres, prisons, HIV/AIDS centres and homes for the elderly. In a Reiki session the practitioner allows an unlimited external source of "energy" to flow through them into the client. A good Reiki practitioner learns to "listen intuitively" to what their hands are telling them and to become a clear channel through which energy can pass. In this way s/he promotes the body's self healing. Reiki
